Context: I have two dogs. A 10 year old Shetland Sheepdog (Lupin) who has always been the height of laziness and is quite the little couch potato and a 5 month old pitbull who, true to her breed, is all energy and is quickly growing into a moose (Rowan).
Well, we just got the pitty fixed and it’s been a chore keeping her quiet. You’d never know she needs pain meds the way she wants to run and jump. When my Sheltie got fixed, we just gave him his favorite chew toys and basically let him move into my mom’s room with them for a couple weeks. Our biggest chore was giving him his pills. He kept himself pretty occupied cuddling with the cat and playing with his squeaky toys. But for Rowan, we’ve had to get creative (and leave her in the kitchen, as she’s proving difficult to potty train).
And thus, the KONG. And frankly, it’s as much fun for me as it is for her. So far, her favorite is orange segments, bits of apple, and peanut butter, but she seems to be a fan of yam and cheese, too. I can rely on her nonstop energy as well as healthy ingredients to keep her at a healthy weight while she recovers and this way she’s not pulling the stitches. Tomorrow, I try celery, apple, and plain yogurt! I seriously recommend this! I’ve heard of it before, but Lupin was never interested in food he had to work for, so we only tried it once.
